The Department of Respiratory Medicine (also known as Pulmonary Medicine) at MAMS is committed to delivering high-quality care for patients with a range of respiratory conditions, from acute illnesses like pneumonia to chronic diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. The department plays a vital role in diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases of the lungs and respiratory tract, which significantly affect patients’ overall health.

Our department offers tailored teaching programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, ensuring a comprehensive approach to learning that evolves with the dynamic field of medicine. We emphasize modern clinical practices while maintaining a strong focus on quality patient care.

The department fully implements the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme, providing free anti-tuberculosis medications to patients. Additionally, we offer Pulmonary Function Tests and conduct periodic Free Asthma & Allergy Clinics to support early diagnosis and management.

The department is staffed by a team of highly skilled and experienced faculty who are committed to delivering the best healthcare outcomes. Our faculty ensures efficient diagnosis and management of respiratory diseases, collaborating with the Radiology Department for diagnostic imaging services such as chest X-rays, CT scans, and high-resolution CT scans. We also perform CT-guided biopsies and thoracentesis (fluid collection) for the diagnosis of various lung conditions.

Over time, the department has expanded its expertise to manage a wide range of respiratory diseases, including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), pleural diseases, and sleep disorders.

Specialized Clinics:

Asthma and Allergy Clinics: Dedicated to the diagnosis and management of asthma and respiratory allergies.
Tuberculosis Clinic: Focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tuberculosis.
Lung cancer screening clinic: Includes screening for lung cancer, smoking associatedILD, COPD and smoking cessation.
Lung transplant screening clinic.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Provides tailored rehabilitation programs for patients with chronic lung diseases

Our department is also involved in clinical research, academics, and training, providing students with essential skills and knowledge in respiratory and sleep medicine. We offer structured training for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate students, which includes lectures, practical sessions, case discussions, and exposure to a variety of clinical conditions.

In addition, our faculty is actively engaged in academic publications, research projects, and participates in national and international conferences, contributing to the ongoing advancement of pulmonary medicine.

The department is equipped with state-of-the-art tools such as high-resolution CT scans, pulmonary function testing equipment, bronchoscopes, and sleep study monitoring equipment to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of respiratory conditions.
