Department of Ophthalmology provides comprehensive eye care services with a commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and academic activities.

Our department offers specialized clinics and services, catering to a wide range of eye conditions:

• Specialty Clinics:

o Medical Retina, Uvea and Vitreo-retinal clinic
o Glaucoma
o Cornea and Ocular Surface diseases
o Neuro-Ophthalmology
o Paediatric Ophthalmology and Squint
o Contact Lens Clinic

• Comprehensive Eye Care:

o Diagnosis and management of cataract, retinal disorders, glaucoma, refractive errors, and retinal disorders.
o Regular screening programs for school children to detect refractive errors and other eye conditions.

o Slit lamps with display screen, keratometers, ultrasound biometry

o Anterior and posterior segment lasers
o Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for anterior and posterior segments
o Fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography

Surgical Expertise

The faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology are highly qualified. They are clinically and surgically skilled, dedicated to providing exceptional patient care, and committed to achieving excellence and perfection in their field. Our Operation Theatre is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a Zeiss operating microscope in a HEPA filter fitted theatre, enabling a wide range of ophthalmic surgeries:

• Common Procedures:

o Cataract surgeries: Phacoemulsification and Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS)
o Pterygium excision
o Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR)
o Intravitreal injections
o Ocular trauma repairs – lid tears, corneal/corneoscleral tear repairs

• Future Expansion:

o Plans to enhance facilities for advanced retinal surgeries
o Start a laser refractive surgery unit

Community Outreach and Social Responsibility

The Department of Ophthalmology actively participates in community welfare activities:

• Eye Camps:

o We are registered with the District Blindness Control Society.
o Regularly conducts free eye camps in rural areas and performs surgeries, ensuring excellent outcomes for underserved populations.

• Awareness Programs:

o Creating awareness on diabetic retinopathy and common vision-threatening retinal conditions, glaucoma, corneal blindness, and childhood blindness prevention.

• Eye Donation:

o A dedicated eye retrieval unit in association with the LV Prasad Eye Institute for eye banking and donation awareness.

Teaching and Research

The Department of Ophthalmology is deeply committed to educating and mentoring aspiring ophthalmologists. We aim to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to excel in their careers while ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
